چکیده

We investigate the particle and kinetic energy densities of harmonically trapped fermion gases at zero temperature in arbitrary dimensions. We derive analytically a differential equation connecting these densities, which so far have been proven only in one or two dimensions, and give other interesting relations involving several densities or the particle density alone. We show that in the asymptotic limit of large particle numbers, the densities go over into the semi-classical Thomas-Fermi (TF) densities. Hereby the Fermi energy to be used in the TF densities is identified uniquely. We derive an analytical expansion for the remaining oscillating parts and obtain very simple closed forms for the leading-order oscillating densities. Finally, we show that the simple TF functional relation τTF [ρ] between kinetic and particle density is fulfilled also for the asymptotic quantum densities τ(r) and ρ(r) including their leading-order oscillating terms.

Density profile of a harmonically trapped ideal fermi gas in arbitrary dimension.

Closed-form analytic expressions are derived for the density profile of a harmonically trapped noninteracting Fermi gas in d dimensions. Shell structure effects are included to leading order in 1/N, where N is the number of particles. These corrections to the local density approximation scale as deltan/n approximately N-alpha, where alpha=(1+1/d)/2.

Exact few-body results for strongly correlated quantum gases in two dimensions

The study of strongly correlated quantum gases in two dimensions has important ramifications for understanding many intriguing phenomena in solid materials, such as high-Tc superconductivity and the fractional quantum-Hall effect. However, theoretical methods are plagued by the existence of significant quantum fluctuations. Here, we present twoand three-body exact solutions for both fermions an...

Abnormal superfluid fraction of harmonically trapped few-fermion systems.

Superfluidity is a fascinating phenomenon that, at the macroscopic scale, leads to dissipationless flow and the emergence of vortices. While these macroscopic manifestations of superfluidity are well described by theories that have their origin in Landau's two-fluid model, our microscopic understanding of superfluidity is far from complete. Using analytical and numerical ab initio approaches, t...

Harmonically Trapped Quantum Gases

We solve the problem of a Bose or Fermi gas in d-dimensions trapped by δ ≤ d mutually perpendicular harmonic oscillator potentials. From the grand potential we derive their thermodynamic functions (internal energy, specific heat, etc.) as well as a generalized density of states. The Bose gas exhibits Bose-Einstein condensation at a nonzero critical temperature Tc if and only if d+ δ > 2, and a ...

Static and dynamic properties of trapped fermionic Tonks-Girardeau gases.

We investigate some static and dynamic properties of harmonically trapped fermionic Tonks-Girardeau gases in tight de Broglie waveguides with attractive p-wave interactions induced by a Feshbach resonance. An exact solution for the one-body density matrix is analyzed in terms of its natural orbitals, with the surprising result that for odd, but not for even, numbers of fermions the maximally oc...
